Darton College Cavalier Arena

The renovation, addition and adaptive reuse of the Darton College Cavalier Arena provides Darton students and residents of Albany with a new activity, convocation and recreation center. In order to maximize the existing recreation center space, the design team creatively converted the old natatorium into a new office suite and expanded weight training facility. The remaining multi-sports forum was fully renovated into a modern, multi-use performance venue.

The addition includes a new state-of-the-art varsity performance center, eight lane competition pool with dive tower, weight training and cardio areas and aerobics rooms. Amenities of the arena include a booster club suite, support spaces, team and public locker rooms, administrative offices, concession stands and lounge space.

To contextually connect both facilities and improve circulation, a central lobby was designed. In order to maintain a strong connection with the outdoor playfields, great care was taken in the orientation of the central lobby and addition. The lobby features a grand staircase with comfortable furnishings and fresh finishes accented by Darton College school colors.
