Combining two established households is always a challenge. Throw in an impressive collection of colonial antiques and a 2,200 square foot contemporary urban space and a unique design opportunity presents itself.
The design takes advantage of floor to ceiling windows and celebrates magnificent views of Forest Park and downtown St. Louis. Niches were created to showcase the finest pieces of the owners’ collections and playful colors for accent walls offset the traditional pieces.
One particular challenge was incorporating corner cabinets into an open floor plan unit with few existing corners. Material selections such as cherry cabinetry and stainless steel in the open kitchen bridge the style of the early 19th century antiques with the contemporary design of the building.
The renovations encompassed the entire condo unit including living spaces, a master bedroom suite, two additional bedrooms and baths. Modifications had to work around existing plumbing stacks, mechanical chases and ongoing building upgrades.
The space allows the owners to celebrate their favorite pieces in a cozy but contemporary space.
