Traditional values, modern solutions

Do you have a property to sell or let?

A Historic grade II-listed cottage in Cheltenham dating from the mid-Victorian era is one of the more unusual properties featuring in Bond Wolfe’s next auction on Thursday 19 May.

The Historic grade II-listed, semi-detached property is one of a pair called the Redgrove Cottages, this one being No. 4 Hatherley Lane, located to the west of the city centre.

The cottage, built for local landowner Thomas Packer Walter Butt’s Arle Court Estate from around 1857 to 1860, will appear in the auction with a guide price* of £190,000+.

The building was erected in what is known as Tudor vernacular style, with red and pinkish-brown brick giving an irregular chequerboard effect.

Jonathan Hackett, a consultant director at Bond Wolfe, said: “This historic estate cottage has a beautiful external decorative quality, standing back from the road behind a pretty front garden.

“There is an attached wall and outhouses to the rear garden area, including a brick-built store with an outside WC.

“The ground floor has a kitchen and two reception rooms, while upstairs there are two bedrooms and a bathroom, with gas central heating.

“The cottage has fascinating lattice casements with sills and hoodmoulds to the windows throughout, with the first-floor windows also each having gables.

“The entrances feature plank doors with strap hinges, with decorative barge-boards throughout, with similar features on the outhouses.

“The property was one of a good group of estate cottages built for what was a Victorian landowner’s renowned estate, and will provide its new owner with a real slice of history.”

The historic Grade II-listed cottage is just one of 159 lots that will appear in Bond Wolfe’s next auction which starts at 9 am on Thursday 19 May. The auction will be live-streamed via Bond Wolfe’s website with remote bidding by proxy, telephone or internet only.
