Traditional values, modern solutions

From our October Auction we have donated £2,000 to support Birmingham Dogs Home’s Outdoor Enrichment and Socialisation Project, a vital new initiative designed to improve the emotional wellbeing of rescue dogs and help them prepare for life in their forever homes.

The project, based at Birmingham Dogs Home’s Solihull Centre, aims to create a series of purpose-built outdoor enrichment spaces that will allow dogs to enjoy natural experiences, exploring, playing, and socialising safely in a calm, secure environment.

Once complete, these new areas will include:

  • Large grass paddocks for group exercise and play

  • Quiet sensory gardens to help anxious dogs relax and build confidence

  • Designated training zones for one-to-one behavioural sessions

  • Shaded rest spaces and natural planting to create a tranquil atmosphere

Birmingham Dogs Home cares for around 2,000 dogs each year across its two centres in Solihull and Wolverhampton, providing a place of safety, rehabilitation, and love for those who have been lost, abandoned, or mistreated. Many of the dogs arrive in distress, often underweight and scared, and the charity’s team of behavioural experts work tirelessly to rebuild their trust in humans.

The Outdoor Enrichment and Socialisation Project forms part of a broader mission by the charity to create the best possible environment for every dog in its care, ensuring that every animal receives not only physical care but also mental stimulation and companionship.

Birmingham Dogs Home, founded in 1892, relies entirely on public support to fund its life-changing work. Donations like the one from the Bond Wolfe Charitable Trust help the charity continue to offer the love, care, and rehabilitation that thousands of dogs depend upon each year.
