Traditional values, modern solutions

Do you have a property to sell or let?

A notable 1960s Methodist church in Birmingham is set to return to the market in Bond Wolfe’s upcoming live-streamed auction on Wednesday, 11 December.

The former Maypole Methodist Church, located on Sladepool Farm Road in Kings Heath, has been listed with a guide price* of £345,000+. This comes after the property was previously sold in a highly competitive auction in September but is now unexpectedly available again.

Ian Tudor, commercial auction director at Bond Wolfe, commented: “This property has returned to the market, and based on the strong interest it generated last time, we anticipate considerable attention from bidders nationwide during our upcoming auction.”

A Landmark with Religious History

The church, built in the early 1960s with additional features added in the 1980s, offers approximately 4,820 sq ft of internal space on a site extending to nearly half an acre. The property includes a car park to the side and rear and is surrounded by a well-established residential neighborhood.

Mr. Tudor explained: “The site is subject to a restrictive covenant that limits its use to religious purposes. Interested parties are advised to carefully review the legal pack for further details and verification of this covenant.”

The single-storey building features:

  • Entrance lobby
  • Main worship hall
  • Offices and meeting rooms
  • Accessible WC, ladies’ and gents’ facilities
  • Storage areas

The site originally housed the Sladepool Farm Road Methodist Chapel, which began in 1939 as a wooden school hall catering to the growing Maypole Estate. A temporary chapel was later established in 1949, and the current Maypole Methodist Church was constructed in the 1960s.

Prime Location with Excellent Transport Links

The property occupies a prominent position on Sladepool Farm Road, near the junction with the A435 Alcester Road South—a key route connecting Maypole, Kings Heath, and Moseley with Birmingham city centre, located just five miles to the north. The site is also conveniently located for regional and national travel, with access to the Midlands Motorway network via Junction 3 of the M42, only a short drive away.
