Georgian canalside lodge near Stoke-on-Trent heads to Bond Wolfe auction

A Grade II-listed Georgian house overlooking the canal near Stoke-on-Trent is set to appear in Bond Wolfe’s next live-streamed auction.

The historic Canal House, on Chatterley Road in Tunstall, will be offered with a guide price* of £255,000+ in the auction on Thursday 5 February. The property dates back to the 1820s and was originally built to serve the adjacent Harecastle Tunnel on the Trent and Mersey Canal.

Historic England records show that Canal House was constructed between 1824 and 1827 as a lodge for canal workers associated with the Harecastle Tunnel. The whitewashed brick building is listed for its special architectural and historic interest, including brick gable chimney stacks, a central doorway with a pedimented surround and arched brick window heads.

The canalside property will be among around 180 lots appearing in Bond Wolfe’s next auction, which is due to start at 8.30am on Thursday 5 February.
