Historic former police station in Staffordshire to go under the hammer with Bond Wolfe
A Grade II-listed former police station in the Staffordshire market town of Uttoxeter is set to be offered in Bond Wolfe’s next auction, presenting an exciting opportunity for redevelopment.
The former police station at 32 Balance Street comprises two linked buildings, several single-storey outbuildings and onsite parking, and will have a guide price of £400,000+ in the live-streamed auction on Thursday 23 October.
The property, which closed in spring 2025 when Staffordshire Police relocated to the town’s fire station, extends to approximately 5,173 sq ft (net internal area) on a 0.28-acre site.
Ian Tudor, commercial auction director at Bond Wolfe, said:
“This historic property consists of two main interconnected buildings and a range of single-storey outbuildings that were formerly used as the custody block.
The main building to the left is a Georgian-style property believed to date back to around 1756, while the right-hand side addition was constructed in the 19th century.
The property is Grade II-listed for its distinctive architectural features, including a stucco plinth, moulded eaves cornice, sash windows, and a plain stucco doorcase with engaged columns, frieze and cornice, which reflect its historic importance.
The former police station offers flexible accommodation and is considered suitable for a variety of alternative uses, subject to obtaining the necessary planning permissions.”
The ground floor currently includes a kitchen, former staff room, stores, reception and waiting areas, five offices, an interview room, two former cells, and toilets.
On the first floor, there are five further offices, toilets and a landing, with four storage rooms on the second floor. Externally, the site includes a surfaced car park and a range of outbuildings, providing further development potential.
The property occupies a prominent position on the northern side of Balance Street, close to the start of Uttoxeter’s town centre. The surrounding area is mainly residential, bordered by a care home to the west and apartments to the east.
Uttoxeter is a well-connected market town located around 14 miles from Stafford, with a train station less than 600 metres away. The town has undergone regeneration in recent years, including the Dovefields Retail Park, which features Tesco, Waitrose, and leisure amenities such as a cinema and bowling alley.
Bond Wolfe is selling the former police station in partnership with Carter Jonas estate agency.
The property will be among 179 lots appearing in Bond Wolfe’s next live-streamed auction, which begins at 8.30am on Thursday 23 October.
The auction will be streamed live via www.bondwolfe.com with remote bidding available by proxy, telephone or internet.
