Historic former Staffordshire police station heads to Bond Wolfe auction
A Grade II-listed former police station in Staffordshire is set to appear in Bond Wolfe’s next auction. The historic property at 32 Balance Street in Uttoxeter will carry a guide price* of £330,000+ in our live-streamed auction on Thursday 26 March.
The building, which includes two linked properties along with various outbuildings and car parking, closed as a police station in spring 2025, with Staffordshire Police relocating operations to part of the town’s fire station.
The Grade II listing recognises a number of historic architectural features described by Historic England, including its stucco plinth, moulded eaves cornice, sash windows and plain stucco doorcase with engaged columns, frieze and cornice, some elements of which date back to 1756.
Ian Tudor, commercial auction director at Bond Wolfe, said:
“This former police station comprises two main buildings connected at ground floor level.
The building on the left is a former Georgian-style property, while the structure on the right is believed to date from the 19th century, and there is also a range of single-storey outbuildings that were previously used as a custody block.
The total internal accommodation extends to approximately 5,173 sq ft and sits on a site of around 0.28 acres.
The ground floor currently includes a kitchen, former staff room, stores, reception and waiting area, five offices, an interview room, two former cells and toilet facilities.
On the first floor there are landings, five offices and further toilets, while the second floor provides four storage rooms, with surfaced car parking and additional outbuildings to the rear.”
The property occupies a prominent position on the northern side of Balance Street, with a residential care home neighbouring the site to the west and a residential apartment block to the east.
Uttoxeter is a well-established market town in East Staffordshire, approximately 14 miles from Stafford, and benefits from a range of amenities following town centre redevelopment in the early 2000s.
The surrounding area is predominantly residential, with Uttoxeter town centre within a short walk and the town’s railway station located approximately 600 metres away.
Nearby amenities include Dovefields Retail Park, which features leisure facilities such as a bowling alley and cinema, along with Tesco and Waitrose supermarkets.
Bond Wolfe is marketing the property in partnership with Carter Jonas estate agency.
The former police station will be among scores of lots appearing in Bond Wolfe’s next auction, which is due to start at 8.30am on Thursday 26 March.
The auction will be live-streamed via our website, with remote bidding available by proxy, telephone or internet.
