Selling your property via our remote bidding auction
Although Covid-19 restrictions have recently been eased, the health and safety of our staff and clients will always be our highest priority. Although our team are excited to get back to the auction room, we do not yet feel it is safe or responsible to do so. Our auctions will therefore continue to be livestreamed via our website for the time being with remote bidding by proxy, telephone or internet.
If you are thinking about selling a property the good news is that the property market remains busy and with our high success rates, we are confident in achieving a successful sale on your behalf. We will continue to undertake free market appraisals and are happy to undertake a socially distanced valuation or a remote desktop valuation should you prefer us to do so. We will also continue with our 360° virtual tours and viewings, this will enable us to offer our full marketing campaign and allow prospective purchasers to undertake their usual due diligence, meaning we can achieve the best result possible, on your behalf.
What is a livestreamed auction?
Our traditional in-room auctions attract between 2,000-3,000 people at each event, so for obvious reasons we have not be able to able to hold them in this way for some time.
However, we already stream our auctions live via our website so anyone can watch the auction from any device anywhere in the world (151,273 people logged on to watch our auctions live in 2020).
Until we feel it is safe to do so, rather than having everyone mass gather at one auction venue, we will still hold the auction on a set time and date but behind closed doors. Our usual auctioneers will conduct the auction from our offices and stream the auction via the internet.
How do people bid?
The auction will still operate in the same way and prospective purchasers will pre-register, giving them 3 options to bid.
• By proxy – the auctioneer will bid on their behalf up to a maximum pre-set amount
• By telephone – a member of staff will bid on their behalf taking their instructions over the phone
• Via the internet – they are provided with log in details to bid via a secure area on our website, having access to the whole auction in in the same way as bidding in an auction room
We already offered these services at our in-room auctions, so they are all tried and trusted ways of bidding. Our remote bidding auctions in 2020 were a fantastic success, we had 12,825 registered remote bidders and 151,273 people watch the auctions live. We have sold 1,029 lots from the 1,094 offered, representing a success rate of 94% (the highest across the whole of the UK) and raising over £111.3m in sales.
We carry out identity checks and securely register debit card details in advance of the auction. That way we know exactly who has registered, giving you the highest level of certainty that all registered bidders are genuinely looking to complete any successful purchase.
