Traditional values, modern solutions

Do you have a property to sell or let?

An unusual four lots of neighbouring Grade II-listed cottages in Oxfordshire that date back to the 18th century are coming up for sale in Bond Wolfe’s next auction. The quartet of terraced homes at numbers 1, 2, 5 and 7 The Row in Bletchingdon village, near Kidlington, will each have attractive guide prices* of £200,000+ at the live-streamed auction on Thursday 16 May.

Gurpreet Bassi, chief executive of Bond Wolfe, explained that the properties were first built in 1794 as a row of 13 rubble-stone cottages with slate roofs. The ageing properties were condemned in 1952 by the local housing authority but were then restored in 1954 and converted into seven cottages, receiving their listed status in 1966.

Mr Bassi said: “It’s rare for us to have more than one Grade II-listed property on the same street up for auction, but to have as many as four listed houses that are all neighbouring each other is pretty much unheard of. All four are attractive terraced cottages standing flush to the pavement on The Row, in the small and highly sought after village of Bletchingdon.”

Number 1 is an end-terraced property and has a hall, reception room, dining kitchen, and bedroom with ensuite on the ground floor, with a landing and three more bedrooms upstairs. Number 2 is a mid-terraced property and has a hall, reception room and dining kitchen on the ground floor, with a landing, three bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. Number 5 is a mid-terraced property and has a hall, reception room, dining kitchen and understairs store on the ground floor, with a landing, three bedrooms and bathroom upstairs, while number 7 has a similar layout but is an end-terraced property with just two bedrooms. All four properties have gas-fired central heating and have access to rear gardens along a communal alleyway.

Bletchingdon has a primary school, sports field, village hall and 12th century parish church, and there are two cafes in the nearby village of Weston on Green. The village is approximately six miles north of Oxford city centre and around 3.5 miles from Oxford Parkway railway station, with direct links to London Marylebone within 55 minutes. The properties offer easy access to the A34, with good road links to the A40, A444 and junction 9 of the M40 motorway just three miles away.

Mr Bassi added: “These properties are a remarkable opportunity for first-time buyers or landlords seeking to extend their portfolios to take a dip into history.”

The four neighbouring Grade II-listed properties are among scores of lots that are appearing in Bond Wolfe’s next auction, which will start at 9am on Thursday 16 May.
